THE ROLE
We have a vacancy for a Technologist based at our European Technical Centre, Lathom within the Flat Glass Technology Group. The key responsibilities of this role will cover flat glass forming and annealing technologies, whilst also supporting our broader activities involving decarbonisation, manufacturing improvements, process & product development. The role will involve a mixture of practical site-based activities and theoretical work, developing and delivering technological innovation, whilst also providing technical support to production issues and larger engineering capital projects (e.g. float plant start-ups following repair). As such there is close interaction with other NSG functions: Manufacturing Excellence, Engineering, Procurement and the Sustainability Group, as well as the flat glass plants themselves. Technical support requests are often unplanned and urgent, requiring a rapid, effective response, sometimes with travel required at short notice.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
- Practical and theoretical knowledge of glass forming and annealing would be preferred.
- Science or Engineering degree qualified with minimum 5 years relevant work experience.
- Excellent organisational, IT, and presentation skills.
- An agile self-starter with good communication and influencing skills who relishes solving problems and reacting quickly to changing business needs.
- Project management experience would be advantageous.
- A willingness to travel within the UK and overseas, sometimes at short notice, for periods of a few days to a few weeks is essential.
