Overview

Elementa are recruiting for an SEMH/SCLN Learning Support Assistant for a specialist primary provision in Gloucester, catering for children aged 5‑11. The children who attend the school have an EHCP to support their SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) and SCLN (Speech, Communication and Language Needs). Your role will be to support teaching staff in delivering high‑quality, inclusive provision for all pupils.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic and pastoral support to pupils to help them overcome barriers to learning.
  • Support teaching staff in planning and adapting resources to meet individual needs.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to share effective strategies.
  • Respond appropriately to challenging behaviour as part of a team.
  • Support pupils to make positive choices around behaviour, attendance, and social interactions.
  • Help to build strong relationships between the school and families to enhance outcomes.
  • Adhere to safeguarding and confidentiality procedures at all times.
  • Monitor, record, and contribute to the evaluation of pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Promote high standards and contribute to a culture of shared good practice.
  • Support whole‑school reward systems and positive behaviour approaches.
  • Encourage pupils to develop social, emotional, and cultural understanding.
  • Monitor individual health needs and communicate these effectively to staff.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Previous experience working in a specialist provision, primary setting, or with children with additional needs.
  • Strong behavioural management skills, patience and resilience.
  • Ability to act as a positive role model for pupils and provide effective educational and pastoral support.
  • DBS on the Update Service (required); delays in processing a new DBS may impact start dates.
