Type: temp-to-perm; Details: Full time (Monday to Friday, 9:30am – 3:30pm) Term-time only; Location: Failand, Bristol; Start date: September 2025; Pay: GBP111 – GBP182 per day during trial period (GBP20,000 – GBP37,000 equivalent actual perm salary).
Elmtree Learning Partnership is a multi-site Alternative Education Provision service, serving primary and secondary-aged pupils with EHCPs relating mainly to ASC, SEMH with their main headquarters based in Weston Super Mare. The new site will be based in the Failand area of Bristol and will support learners focusing on GCSE and entry A Level (AS level) exams, with additional vocational study options including outdoor learning, construction, computing and other extra-curricular subjects as a main study focus.
Role
The role of the academic mentor will be to support students that have an EHCP and generally have good academic attainment but may struggle in a particular subject area or task. The focus is on intensive intervention in the learner\’s key area of weakness. The profile of learners attending will mostly need encouragement and academic support more than emotional support. The mentor should also monitor, empathise and provide pastoral guidance when appropriate. The role requires someone who is academically oriented and able to support with any subject.
Applicants with experience supporting learners with additional needs relating to SEMH & trauma, ASC / ASD may be well suited, provided they can meet the required standard of learning support.
Responsibilities
- Provide targeted academic support to learners with EHCPs to address specific areas of difficulty.
- Offer intensive intervention to improve learners\’ key academic weaknesses.
- Monitor and record progress, and adapt strategies to maximise student outcomes.
- Offer pastoral guidance as needed while prioritising academic focus.
- Collaborate with the wider team to support learners toward GCSE and A Level goals.
Qualifications & Experience
- Strong academic background with ability to support across subjects.
- Experience working with learners who have SEND, SEMH, ASC/ASD is advantageous.
- Commitment to safeguarding and supporting students to achieve academically and personally.
- Ability to work autonomously as part of a wider team.
Additional Information
- Role intended to transfer to a permanent contract after a 60 paid day trial period.
- Elementa is the recruiting partner; may require registration, vetting, reference checks and DBS Enhanced Disclosure (may be chargeable at GBP64.10).
