Are you a resilient, compassionate, and confident individual with experience supporting young people who display challenging behaviour? Elementa Support Services is working in partnership with a supportive secondary school to recruit a dedicated Behaviour and Learning Mentor. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning, improve their engagement in education, and achieve their full potential.
Working as part of the school's behaviour and pastoral support team, you will build positive relationships with pupils, provide guidance and encouragement, and help create a safe, calm, and productive learning environment where all students can succeed.
About the Role
- Work as part of the school's behaviour and pastoral support team to promote positive behaviour and engagement across the school
- Build strong, professional relationships with pupils, acting as a positive role model and mentor
- Support students who display challenging, disruptive, or disengaged behaviours, helping them overcome barriers to learning
- Patrol and monitor key areas of the school throughout the day, providing a visible, supportive presence for pupils and staff
- Deliver targeted interventions and mentoring sessions on a 1:1 and small-group basis
- Support pupils to develop emotional regulation, resilience, self-confidence, and positive decision‑making skills
- Assist with de‑escalating incidents calmly and effectively, using restorative and relationship‑based approaches where appropriate
- Work closely with teachers, pastoral leaders, SENCOs, and senior leaders to implement behaviour support strategies and individual plans
- Encourage positive attitudes towards learning, attendance, punctuality, and personal development
- Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, inclusion, and high expectations at all times
What We're Looking For
- Have substantial experience working with young people who display challenging, complex, or high‑needs behaviours
- Be compassionate, empathetic, and approachable whilst maintaining firm boundaries and high expectations
- Be confident, resilient, and able to remain calm under pressure
- Be physically fit and comfortable spending much of the day walking around the school site supporting pupils and staff
- Have excellent communication, mentoring, and relationship‑building skills
- Be proactive, reliable, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Have a genuine passion for helping young people succeed and reach their full potential
- Be available to start immediately or at short notice
- Hold an enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service or be willing to obtain one
Experience in education, youth work, sports coaching, residential care, mentoring, social care, the armed forces, or similar settings where behaviour management and relationship building are central to the role would be highly advantageous.
