Elementa Support Services is working in partnership with supportive and forward-thinking primary and secondary schools to recruit skilled and motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs). This role offers the opportunity to take on additional responsibility, including leading lessons, supporting whole-class learning, and working closely with teaching staff to raise attainment and engagement.

About the Role

  • Deliver pre-planned lessons in the absence of the teacher
  • Support the planning and delivery of engaging and inclusive learning activities
  • Work with individuals and small groups to reinforce learning and close attainment gaps
  • Provide specialist support for pupils with additional learning needs (ALN/SEND)
  • Assist with assessment, monitoring, and reporting on pupil progress
  • Promote positive behaviour, safeguarding, and pupil wellbeing at all times
  • Collaborate with teachers and senior leaders to support whole-school priorities

What We’re Looking For

  • HLTA status or significant experience in a similar role
  • Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration (or willingness to obtain)
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply (Elementa can assist)
  • Proven experience supporting teaching and learning within UK schools
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Confidence delivering lessons and leading whole-class activities

Desirable

  • Experience across multiple key stages (KS1–KS4)
  • Experience supporting pupils with ALN/SEND
  • A proactive, flexible, and reflective approach to supporting learning

Appointment Criteria

  • A successful interview process
  • Satisfactory references
  • Safeguarding & Prevent training
  • Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration in the appropriate categories
  • Enhanced DBS Disclosure (which may be chargeable at £64.20 unless subscribed to the Update Service)
  • Successful completion of a 12-week / 60 paid day employment trial period
