We are seeking a caring, enthusiastic, and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Weston-super-Mare.
This is a fantastic opportunity to support children at the very beginning of their educational journey, helping them develop the confidence, skills, and independence they need to thrive both academically and socially.
Working within the Reception class, you will support the class teacher in delivering engaging learning activities and creating a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment where every child can flourish.
You will work closely with pupils throughout the school day, providing whole‑class support, leading small‑group activities, and offering 1:1 support where required.
You will play an important role in supporting children's early development across all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), including communication and language, personal, social and emotional development, early literacy and numeracy, and learning through play.
You will also help children establish positive routines, develop independence, and build confidence as they begin their school journey.
Working collaboratively with the class teacher, SENDCo, parents, and other professionals, you will contribute to providing an inclusive learning environment where every child is encouraged to achieve their full potential.

The school is seeking a committed and enthusiastic individual who
- Has experience working with young children, ideally within an EYFS or Reception setting.
- Has a good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum.
- Holds GCSEs in English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above, or equivalent).
- Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Has a patient, caring, and nurturing approach.
- Is confident supporting children both individually and in small groups.
- Can build positive and trusting relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Works well as part of a team and is willing to use their initiative.
- Is adaptable, proactive, and enthusiastic about supporting early childhood development.
- Understands the importance of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the class teacher in delivering engaging and creative Reception lessons and activities.
- Work with individuals and small groups to support learning and development across the EYFS curriculum.
- Encourage children's communication, language, literacy, numeracy, and social skills through structured activities and play‑based learning.
- Support pupils with varying learning needs, implementing agreed strategies where appropriate.
- Help establish positive routines and promote independence, confidence, and positive behaviour.
- Prepare and organise classroom resources and learning environments.
- Observe and monitor children's progress, providing feedback to the class teacher.
- Support children during indoor and outdoor learning activities, lunchtime, and transitions throughout the school day.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment.
