No formal teaching qualification is required , and graduates from all degree backgrounds are welcome to apply.

As a Cover Supervisor, you'll step into the classroom when a teacher is absent, deliver pre-planned work and keep pupils focused, engaged and on track.

Key responsibilities

  • Supervise secondary school classes during teacher absence.
  • Deliver pre-prepared lessons and ensure pupils understand the work set.
  • Keep pupils engaged, motivated and focused on their learning.
  • Manage classroom behaviour confidently and effectively.
  • Support pupils who may need additional guidance with their work.
  • Follow school policies, procedures and safeguarding expectations.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and wider school staff.

Requirements

  • A degree in any subject area.
  • An interest in working with young people and potentially pursuing a career in education.
  • Confidence communicating with groups of secondary-aged pupils.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A positive, adaptable and professional approach.
  • EWC registration, or willingness to register.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to complete a new application.

Desirable

  • Ability to speak Welsh – beneficial but not essential.
  • Previous experience working with young people through tutoring, coaching, mentoring, youth work, sports clubs or similar settings.
  • An interest in progressing into teacher training or another education-based career.
