The Acid Laboratory at the GIC plays an integral role in supporting Element Six’s research activities. In our laboratories, a team of skilled operators, technicians and scientists produce and evaluate new diamond super‑hard materials for the global market. This work includes understanding the fundamentals of materials science, designing equipment and process engineering.
As an Acid Laboratory Technician, you will ensure a safe working environment for researchers to carry out laboratory scale chemical processes. You will be involved in carrying out a variety of tasks, specific to the needs of R&D projects, through routine chemical processes using standard operating procedures. As a key contact for researchers, you will assist with their projects by providing both hands‑on assistance and technical advice. You will be responsible for ensuring the Acid Lab is kept fully stocked and in a clean and safe condition.
Responsibilities:- Perform a variety of tasks through routine chemical and analytical processes following standard operating procedures.
- Carry out risk assessments for processes in the Acid Laboratory.
- Write Standard Operating Procedures for new chemical processes.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment, ensuring work is carried out using best practice.
- Routine maintenance of equipment and verification of performance.
- Provide training in routine chemical processes and on‑going technical support.
- Ensuring laboratories are fully stocked, safe and operational.
- Comply with department and Company procedures including Health & Safety.
- Experience of working in a chemical laboratory and the use of strong acids, such as hydrofluoric acid.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Good understanding of health and safety standards as well as quality procedures.
- A diligent worker with a keen eye for detail.
- Proficiency in MS Office software and relevant software for data acquisition, treatment and processing.
Successful candidates will be required to complete a background screening check which may include a criminal check and validation of qualifications.
