Element has an excellent opportunity for a Trainee Analyst in our busy Inorganics Laboratory based in Deeside. Your duties will include preparing and analysing routine and non-routine samples using a wide range of wet chemistry techniques such as IC, titration, colorimetry, distillation, pH test, BOD, COD, and other Inorganic techniques in accordance with company methods and adhering to all quality aspects that are required to be carried out in an accredited laboratory. Full training will be given.

Element Deeside is the largest analytical chemistry laboratory within the Element Group and the market leading UK laboratory undertaking the testing of soils, waters, wastes, oils, NAPLs, ambient air, soil vapours and gases from all over the world. The laboratory undertakes high volume routine analysis as well as offering bespoke method development, technical support and hydrocarbon forensic interpretations to enhance the support we can deliver. The laboratory has an international reputation for service excellence and supports clients that require a higher level of technical expertise, reliability in data quality and seamless project management from sample collection to timely delivery of data in the format of choice.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing standards for calibration and quality purposes
  • Conducting analysis and reporting of results to company methods and procedures
  • Control of instrument and method validation
  • Ensuring all analytical procedures comply with accreditation quality standards
  • Ensuring adherence to good lab practice and housekeeping at all times
  • Instrument calibration, routine maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Prioritising workloads to ensure work is completed in a timely manner
  • Ensuring a continual supply of lab consumables by monitoring stock levels and placing orders
  • Development and documentation of methods in conjunction with senior analytical staff
  • Following health and safety procedures

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Degree qualification in Chemistry or a Chemistry related subject would be preferential
  • A ‘levels in Chemistry and other science or maths subjects
  • Experience within a commercial analytical laboratory would be advantageous
  • Alternative qualifications will be considered depending on relevant equivalent experience
  • A highly motivated and organised individual, who is a team player
  • A positive attitude
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and adhere to deadlines
