The Safety Advisor will play a key role in ensuring the organisation operates safely through effective planning and support implementation of the company SHE programs. This position requires knowledge of the Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) requirements in relation to the organisation. The position sits in the local lab leadership team and has influence in the SHE objectives to drive consistent improvements in line with the Business Units priorities. This is a part time 20 hours per week position, Hitchin Based.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure consistent implementation and ongoing execution of organisational SHE policies, programs, practices, and procedures.
  • Conduct compliance in laboratory through audits, inspections, and performance reviews.
  • Review site SHE practices and collaborate with teams to drive continuous improvement.
  • Share best practices, corrective actions, and lessons learned across Cluster laboratories and Divisions as required.
  • Support cultural change initiatives to strengthen maturity of the Zero Harm Framework.
  • Facilitate feedback loops to maintain engagement and ensure sustainability of SHE initiatives.
  • Create local Improvement Plans based on risk profile focusing on the Hierarchy of control principles (Eliminate, Reduce, Substitute, Procedures, PPE).
  • Engage with in-cluster best practice sharing.
  • Encourage outward association with relevant regulatory and subject matter groups to look for new safety improvements.

Skills / Qualifications

  • Proficiency in MS.
  • Proficiency in communication.
  • Ability to enforce regulations and engage in conflict resolution in a respectful and engaging manner; ability to see both sides of a situation, analyse and resolve safety-related issues.
  • Ability to analyse data and provide evidence-based solutions.
  • Has been working in a Health and Safety role and has a suitable qualification in the discipline.
  • Ability to solve practical problems.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions, data and details furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
