Overview
Element is looking for an Aerospace Engineer to join our Team. The Aerospace Engineer will work on a range of projects across several different industries (aero, defence, energy and others) and to support the growth of our in-house capability. This position will involve plenty of hands-on work coupled with the coaching and development of more junior team members. This position is based at our Derby office.
The candidate needs to be based out of the Derby office, and in the short term (rest of 2025) may be deployed for a few days each week to a client site.
Element Digital Engineering is a leading provider of specialist engineering simulation, design, and consultancy support to clients across many industries â including Aerospace, Automotive, Energy, Built Environment and Chemical Process â in the UK and internationally. As a part of our team, you will play a central role in providing our clients with design support and verification services, operational troubleshooting, and technical safety assessments.
Responsibilities
Coordination and support of Systems Engineering activities on a range of projects, including:
- Requirements definition and management at system, sub-system, and equipment levels.
- Development and improvement of requirement specifications with cross-functional teams
- Leadership and support of the development of system architectures, concepts and solutions with the application of a range of tools and techniques, with a specific focus on the use of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
- Where required, the development of system and sub-system specifications and the identification of solutions to meet requirements
- Supporting and leading the development of project proposals, and then leading and executing projects to meet client needs
- Collaboration with and reporting to Customer representatives; and the tailoring and application of engineering initiatives, best practices, and quality processes; and contributing to Continuous Improvement
- Management and resolution of problems/queries that arise from development and qualification activity
Skills / Qualifications
- A Bachelors or Masters degree, or PhD, in a relevant engineering, science or applied mathematics discipline
- Have a good understanding of Systems Engineering principles and practices (e.g. requirements management, functional analysis, concept generation, system design) and their application, particularly in Aerospace
- Are experienced in the application of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches and tools.
- Experience with Capella and the Arcadia method would be an advantage, though this can be taught if experience is with other tools/frameworks.
- Experience in the use of requirements management tools â e.g. IBM DOORs, JAMA Connect or similar
- Good technical knowledge (or a strong willingness to learn) in at least one other technical discipline such as Thermofluids / CFD, Thermals / FEA / Structural engineering
- Have excellent project management and verbal/written communication skills
- Ideally be a Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) or actively working towards chartership status
- Like a challenge, are flexible thinkers and arenât intimidated by unfamiliar problems
