Element Digital Engineering is a leading provider of specialist engineering simulation, design, and consultancy support to clients across many industries – including Nuclear, Aerospace, Energy and Defence – in the UK and internationally. Our fluid flow, thermodynamics or heat transfer technical work covers everything from using experience‑based judgement and simple hand calculations, system level 1D modelling to detailed component level 2D/3D simulations. UK based role.
As a part of our team, you will play a central role in providing our clients with:
- design support

- verification services
Your support will enhance our team as we continue to provide our clients with:
- analysis‑informed design improvements or optimisations

- actionable technical insight to inform budget decisions
As Digital Engineering is part of the global Element Materials Technology group, our engineering consultancy services also support a range of Testing, Inspection and Certification projects via Element’s various laboratories. We are looking to recruit a Senior Engineer with a strong consultancy mindset and demonstrable capability in a range of fluid flow, thermodynamics or heat transfer related topics. Element are committed to the continued development of our in‑house, UK‑based, permanent staff capability for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Thermofluids. The position can be based in our Derby or Bristol offices, with hybrid/flexible working arrangements available. This position would suit someone who is established in their career and looking to take the next step to further develop and to advance their technical capability.

Responsibilities
Your main responsibilities, as part of a thriving and busy team, are as follows:
- Carry out a range of technical projects and analyses, with some supervision from our more experienced staff, in order to meet the clients’ needs and expectations.
- Support business development activities with a range of new and existing clients, including identification of client needs and the creation of proposals and project plans.
- Manage and lead the technical execution of assigned projects, including the work of any assigned staff, including business reporting on project progress and delivery, while working with more experienced staff in order to meet the clients’ needs and expectations.
- Participate in technical delivery and client relationship management.
- Support the development of more junior staff through providing day‑to‑day support and advice from your own experience.
- Integrate and engage with our positive team culture with adherence to Element’s core values – care, integrity, and progress.
Skills / Qualifications
We are looking for people who:
- Have a Bachelor’s degree (grade 2.1 or above), Masters or PhD in a relevant engineering, science or applied mathematics discipline, preferably with a strong CFD or thermofluids component.
- Have experience delivering engineering analysis in an engineering company and/or engineering consultancy setting; prior Project Management experience would be highly desirable.
- Technical knowledge and experience in solving a range of fluid flow, thermodynamics, heat transfer problems.
- Experience with multiphase flow, reactive flow, dispersion or blast is an advantage.
- Prior experience in one or more of the aerospace, nuclear, renewable energy, oil & gas, or defence sectors would be a benefit.
- Will have knowledge and experience of commercial and open-source themofluids analysis tools such as STAR-CCM+, ANSYS Fluent, Amesim, Flomaster and OpenFOAM, with a demonstrable ability to extend their capability using user functions where necessary.
- Some proficiency in the use of programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, VBA, C# or C/C++ would be an advantage.
- Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Actively working toward Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) status.
- Like a challenge, are flexible thinkers and aren’t intimidated by unfamiliar problems.
