Element has an opportunity for a Facilities and Maintenance Engineer to join our rapidly expanding team. As a member of the operations team, the Facilities and Maintenance Engineer position performs a variety of routine and non-routine inspections, servicing, installation and repairs of machinery and equipment under minimal direct supervision in the Aberdeen lab. The Facilities and Maintenance Engineer position must be proficient in a number of core business and technical skills including but not limited to compliance with established safety rules, code of conduct, and company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections, servicing, repairs, and replacements of equipment and facilities on the site
  • Install new equipment across the site where required
  • Participate in the development of current and future equipment
  • Work through daily tasks and instructions from line management
  • Fault find and repair equipment
  • Attend department meetings and provide feedback on outstanding repairs/maintenance
  • Understand and implement standard procedures
  • Restore or replace equipment and facilities back to normal operating conditions
  • Troubleshoot issues with equipment or facilities
  • Create and provide technical input to risk assessments
  • Provide technical input during SHE and Quality investigations
  • Operate within SHE and Quality management system
  • Provide technical input to SHE and Quality procedures
  • Design, detail and build test rigs, fixtures and instrumentation for test laboratories
  • Provide training and support documentation for newly designed equipment
  • Integrate new equipment with existing assets, which may be mechanical and/or electrical and require some level of programming
  • Decide on and implement appropriate design methods and protocols
  • Lead and assign the work of others when needed
  • Provide input to staff training plans and competence reviews
  • Prepare material or conduct staff training when required

Skills / Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of laboratory safety
  • IOSH / NEBOSH desirable
  • Educated in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or similar
  • Significant experience of working with hydraulic and mechanical machines
  • Understanding of various instrumentation types for measuring: pressure, flow, temperature
  • Low voltage AC and DC circuits and basic electronics
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a related field
  • Experience using CAD software
  • Ability to apply an array of engineering techniques in a rational and practical style to help examine issues and build solutions for testing staff
  • Any related skills in programming and control applications would be an advantage
  • Experience working in a mechanical workshop environment
