The Opportunity
Are you an experienced Approved Electrician looking for your next challenge?
Do you enjoy taking ownership of electrical installations, leading by example and helping a small team deliver high-quality work?
Elektratex Engineering Ltd is a growing, Portsmouth-based electrical engineering contractor specialising in Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (EICA) installations within the UK water and wastewater industry.
Due to continued growth and an increasing portfolio of projects, we're looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Approved Electrician to join our team.
This role would suit an electrician who is confident working independently, comfortable supervising a small team and capable of taking responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of small to medium-sized electrical installation projects.
You don't necessarily need to have held a formal Site Supervisor position before. If you're an experienced Approved Electrician who naturally takes the lead, enjoys organising work and wants to develop further, we'd love to hear from you.
You'll work closely with our Project Managers, Operations Manager and fellow engineers to deliver a variety of interesting electrical installations across water treatment works, wastewater treatment works and pumping stations.
What You'll Be Doing
- Carrying out industrial electrical installations to a high standard across water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Taking a lead role in the day-to-day delivery of small to medium-sized electrical installation projects.
- Supervising and supporting small teams of electricians, apprentices and subcontractors where required.
- Liaising directly with Project Managers to coordinate works, discuss progress, identify issues and plan upcoming activities.
- Organising daily site activities, labour, materials and installation sequences to achieve project programmes.
- Installing industrial cable containment systems, including heavy-duty cable tray, ladder rack, basket and conduit.
- Installing, glanding and terminating SWA, control, instrumentation and multicore cables.
- Installing and connecting LV distribution equipment, motor control centres (MCCs), control panels, motors, pumps, actuators and instrumentation.
- Reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics, cable schedules and installation specifications.
- Carrying out electrical inspection, testing and commissioning activities within your competence.
- Ensuring installations comply with BS 7671, relevant industry standards and company procedures.
- Maintaining high standards of health, safety, workmanship and site housekeeping.
- Identifying and communicating technical issues, material requirements and potential programme delays.
- Supporting the development of apprentices and less experienced electricians.
What We're Looking For
- Fully qualified electrician with an NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent.
- Current ECS Gold Card (Approved Electrician).
- Good working knowledge of BS 7671 (18th Edition).
- Proven experience in industrial or commercial electrical installations.
- Strong practical experience installing heavy-duty cable containment and SWA cable systems.
- Ability to read electrical drawings and work independently.
- Confidence to take responsibility for installations and supervise or coordinate a small team.
- Good communication and organisational skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with Project Managers and clients.
- A positive, proactive attitude and pride in delivering quality workmanship.
- Good understanding of site health and safety requirements.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Right to work in the UK.
Desirable (but not essential):
- Previous experience within the water or wastewater industry.
- Experience working on water treatment works, wastewater treatment works or sewage pumping stations.
- City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing qualification or equivalent.
- SSSTS or other site supervisory training.
- EUSR SHEA Water and Water Hygiene qualifications.
- Experience with MCCs, control panels, instrumentation, motor control and automation systems.
- Previous experience supervising electricians, apprentices or small installation teams.
Water industry experience is an advantage, but it's not essential.
We're equally interested in hearing from experienced industrial electricians who have the right attitude, practical skills and willingness to learn. Relevant industry-specific training and development will be provided.
What We Offer
We believe in looking after our engineers and rewarding the work they do.
- Competitive basic salary β up to Β£47,500 per annum, depending on experience.
- 100% paid door-to-door travel β all travel time paid at your full normal hourly rate, from home and back again.
- Paid overtime, in addition to your basic salary.
- Company van and fuel card.
- Company pension scheme.
- 28 days' annual leave, including bank holidays.
- Ongoing professional training and development.
- Opportunities to gain additional qualifications, including CompEx, inspection and testing, and supervisory training where appropriate.
- Opportunities for career progression into supervisory and project management roles.
- A varied workload across interesting industrial and water industry projects.
- Support from an experienced Project Management and Operations team.
- A friendly, professional and growing company where your contribution is recognised and valued.
