The Manager, UX Development role leads Elektaâs UX Development team globally and oversees frontâend development activities for Elektaâs software products, ensuring that they are effective, efficient, satisfying and safe to use. This role is based in Crawley.
Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Lineâmanage a team of individual UX Developers, responsible for hiring, performance management, career development, and motivating the team towards excellent performance.
- Understand Elektaâs products and their contexts to prioritise the resourcing of the team to the most important products and projects, creating the greatest possible UX/product quality, development efficiency and measurable business impact.
- Develop and maintain a network of Elekta stakeholders; in particular, leaders in the Product and Engineering divisions. Understand the needs of these stakeholders, agree on the scope of work with them, and ensure they are kept up to date with progress.
- Support the Head of UX&D in evangelising the benefits of UserâCentred Design across the Elekta business, including collating and communicating a set of compelling case studies where UCD has made measurable business impact.
- Collaborate closely with the rest of the UX&D MT, ensuring that the team speaks and acts as one, shares resources, and seeks to improve ways of working.
- Accountable for the quality of work coming from the team, ensuring it is excellent, consistent and delivered on time and to promises.
- Maintain a good understanding of the other UX&D domains (UX Research, Industrial Design, UX Strategy & Design) to be able to âsellâ the wider teamâs skills and contributions.
- Mentor and coach colleagues, within and outside the UX&D team, on best practice in UX/UI/Frontâend Development.
- Oversee frontâend development and support activities on the most important software products/product lines.
- Lead the development of, and act as owner/authority for, Elektaâs Design System and the Elekta Component Library (ECL). Evangelise the benefits of the Design System/Component Library across Elekta and ensure its widest possible adoption.
- Work closely with the UX Strategy & Design team to maintain the Design System.
- Oversee the development and adoption of the UI Monorepo and its tools, ensuring fast product development and delivery (including CI/CD pipelines, testing, internationalisation, accessibility, etc.).
- Measure the impact of the Design System, Component Library and UI Monorepo on the Elekta Engineering organisation â e.g. in making development of new products faster, more efficient, and better quality.
- Lead a process of collecting and integrating user feedback on the Design System, Component Library and UI Monorepo to ensure continued improvements for its users and product developers.
- Evangelise UX/UserâCentred Design to the Elekta Engineering organisation. Define and support relevant awareness and training activities.
- Mature the frontâend engineering teams at Elekta through best UX/UI design practice.
- Define best practice for the development, testing, security, and delivery of frontâend software.
- Keep up with the stateâofâtheâart in regulated medical devices and frontâend technologies and experiences.
The right stuff:
- A track record of influential leadership, management of senior stakeholders and driving crossâfunctional agreement on userâcentred design.
- Skilled storyteller in userâcentred design and development, able to present complex information in a digestible format at all levels of the business.
- Experience guiding and mentoring UX/Development professionals across functions to drive best practice.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate in a crossâfunctional team.
- Excellent timeâmanagement and multiâtasking ability in a fastâpaced, deadlineâdriven environment.
What you bring:
- Masterâs degree in computer science, software engineering, humanâcomputer interaction, or a similar relevant field.
- Comprehensive knowledge base acquired from 8+ yearsâ experience as a (Senior/Lead) UX Developer in a domain of complex products and services.
- 2+ yearsâ experience in managing a UX/Frontâend Development team, including all peopleâmanagement responsibilities.
- Significant experience in the development of frontâend software and/or business web applications or mobile applications.
- Significant experience in developing and managing a component library or design system for an organisation.
- An understanding and experience of working within regulatory constraints, ideally in the field of medical devices.
- A track record of taking responsibility for the delivery of large, complex projects, endâtoâend.
- A track record of case studies (personal or from a managed team) where userâcentred design and development has had a significant and measurable business impact.
- Good understanding of Agile principles and Agile productâdevelopment practices (Scrum, Kanban, etc.).
- Strong analytical capability and high attention to detail.
- Must be fluent in the English language (reading, speaking, writing and comprehension).
