The Manager, UX Development role leads Elekta’s UX Development team globally and oversees front-end development activities for Elekta’s software products, ensuring they are effective, efficient, satisfying and safe to use. This encompasses building and supporting the Elekta Design System via the UI Monorepo and the Elekta Component Library (ECL), along with support of other product technologies, to ensure products are consistent and joined up.
Responsibilities
- Line-manage a team of individual UX Developers, responsible for hiring, performance management, career development, and motivating the team towards excellent performance.
- Understand Elekta’s Products and their contexts, to be able to prioritise the resourcing of their team to the most important products/projects, creating the greatest possible UX/product quality, development efficiency and measurable business impact.
- Develop and maintain a network of Elekta stakeholders; in particular, leaders in the Product and Engineering divisions.
- Understand the needs of these stakeholders, agree with them the scope of work, and ensure they are kept up to date with progress.
- Support the Head of UX&D in evangelising the benefits of User-Centred Design across the Elekta business, including collating and communicating a set of compelling case studies where UCD has made a measurable business impact.
- Collaborate closely with the rest of the UX&D MT, ensuring that the UX&D team speaks and acts as one team, shares resources, and seeks to improve ways of working.
- Accountable for the quality of work coming from their team, ensuring it is excellent, consistent and delivered on time and to promises.
- Maintain a good understanding of the other UX&D domains (UX Research, Industrial Design, UX Strategy & Design), to be able to 'sell' the wider team’s skills and contributions.
- Mentor and coach colleagues, within and outside the UX&D team, on best practice in UX/UI/Front-end Development.
- Oversee front-end development and support activities on the most important software Products/Product Lines.
- Lead the development of, and act as owner/authority for, Elekta’s Design System and the Elekta Component Library (ECL). Evangelise the benefits of the Design System/Component Library across Elekta and ensure its widest possible adoption.
- Work closely with members of the UX Strategy & Design team to maintain the Design System.
- Oversee the development and adoption of the UI Monorepo and its tools, to ensure for fast product development and delivery (including Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD), pipelines, testing, Internationalisation, Accessibility, etc.).
- Measure the impact of the Design System, Component Library and UI Monorepo on the Elekta Engineering organisation – e.g. in making development of new products faster/more efficient/better quality.
- Lead a process of collecting and integrating user feedback on the Design System, Component Library and UI Monorepo to ensure continued improvements for its users, the product developers.
- Evangelise UX/User-Centred Design to the Elekta Engineering organisation.
- Define and support relevant awareness and training activities.
- Mature the front-end engineering teams at Elekta through best UX/UI design practice.
- Define best practice for the development, testing, security, and delivery of front-end software.
- Keep up with the state-of-the-art in the regulated medical devices and front-end technologies and experiences.
What You’ll Bring
- Master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, human-computer interaction, or a similar relevant field.
- Comprehensive knowledge base acquired from 8+ years’ experience as a (Senior/Lead) UX Developer in a domain of complex products and services.
- 2+ years’ experience in managing a UX/Front-end Development team, including all people management responsibilities.
- Significant experience in the development of front-end software and/or business web applications or mobile applications.
- Significant experience in developing and managing a component library or design system for an organization.
- An understanding and experience of working within regulatory constraints, ideally in the field of medical devices.
- A track record of taking responsibility for the delivery of large, complex projects, end-to-end.
- A track record of case studies (personal or from a managed team) where user-centred design and development has had a significant and measurable business impact.
- Good understanding of Agile principles and Agile product development practices (Scrum, Kanban, etc.).
- A track record of influential leadership, management of senior stakeholders and driving cross-functional agreement on user-centred design.
