Principal Test Development Engineer
Take ownership of complex test equipment development and broaden your technical leadership responsibilities. This role offers the opportunity to shape solutions, lead work packages and build expertise across the full product lifecycle within the defence sector.
Essential requirements
- British citizen with eligibility to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance
- Proven experience in hardware design, integration and validation of test systems
- Experience supporting product lifecycle test activities and development proving
- Knowledge of environmental and electromagnetic compatibility testing
- Ability to work independently and contribute within multidisciplinary engineering teams
What is in it for you
Circa £55,000 depending on experience, plus hybrid and flexible working arrangements.
Your role
- Define and specify test strategies for complex hardware test equipment solutions
- Support design reviews, manufacturing activities and technical problem solving
- Identify opportunities to improve testing and diagnostic approaches
- Lead work packages, coordinate technical deliverables and support engineering teams
- Contribute to system integration, validation and qualification activities
- Work with stakeholders across an international engineering environment
Your experience
- Strong background in hardware test equipment design and development
- Experience of design proving and performance testing activities
- Understanding of qualification processes including environmental and EMC testing
- Strong technical documentation and report writing capability
- Experience leading packages of work or technical deliveries is advantageous
- Military, aerospace or similarly regulated industry experience is beneficial

Hybrid working. Engineers based in Bristol or Bolton may occasionally travel to Stevenage to support collaboration and project activities.
