A specialist maritime and defence engineering organisation is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead complex projects to support the Royal Navy.
You will take ownership of the mechanical design activity across the full lifecycle, contributing to system architecture, guiding technical direction and supporting the delivery of high-integrity engineering solutions across sonar, autonomous and underwater technologies.
You Will Be:
- Leading the design and development of mechanical systems and subsystems for complex maritime applications
- Defining and developing mechanical architectures and translating requirements into robust engineering solutions
- Producing, reviewing and verifying CAD models, technical drawings and design documentation to the required standards
- Supporting integration, testing and commissioning activities to ensure performance, safety and compliance
- Conducting design reviews and providing technical guidance across multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Collaborating with electrical, software, systems and supplier teams to resolve technical challenges
Requirements:
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Experience working within marine, defence or other high-integrity engineering environments
- 3D CAD proficiency, Solid Edge preferred
- Strong understanding of mechanical design and FEA analysis, including stress analysis, materials and manufacturability
- Experience with system level design, requirements interpretation and multidisciplinary engineering integration
- Knowledge of design for reliability, cost and testability
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage various stakeholders
- Experience in mentoring or supporting junior engineers would be advantageous
