Technical Lead – Military Satellite Communication (Mil Satcom) Land Terminals Role Overview: The Technical Lead is responsible for conducting technical analysis for military satellite communication (Mil Satcom) land terminals, designed for use in highly resilient and hostile environments. Responsibilities include analyzing, documenting, generating, and cascading detailed requirements. This role encompasses technical oversight for requirement approvals with frontline users, supplier technical negotiations, project cost modeling, planning, procurement, verification, and final acceptance within the Ministry of Defence (MOD) following system tests with users. Key Skills & Experience Required – About You: Extensive experience with Mil Satcom Land Terminals. Expertise in Satellite Communication Link Budget Analysis in both benign and jammed conditions. Operational analysis for Satcom systems, including data rate demand and capacity. Knowledge of resilient modem waveforms within a Mil Satcom environment. Familiarity with IP and Serial Baseband equipment, cryptographic systems, and key management concepts. Previous experience in Satcom Network Management, including the derivation of use case scenarios and functional requirements leading to software requirements, ideally within a Model-Based Systems Engineering environment. Understanding of Mil Satcom terminal environmental and EMC specifications. Experience in Satcom terminal verification testing, including end-to-end services over satellite and performance metrics. Experience with the entire V-cycle on Mil Satcom Land terminals in a systems engineering role. Ability to discuss requirements and technical solutions with end-users and technical experts.Future Role Requirements: Presenting NGLT needs and requirements to potential suppliers on industry days. Conducting technical reviews and evaluations of all bidders' responses to the Pre-Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ). Reviewing and modifying the Specification of Requirements Document (SoRD) following the PQQ and prior to the Invitation to Negotiate (ITN). Conducting technical reviews of bidders' responses to the ITN and providing technical input on supplier selection decisions. Acting as the Technical Authority for the MOD at design reviews with the NGLT supplier throughout the project design and delivery phases. Serving as the Technical Authority for the MOD during and after user trials as defined in the project Integrated Test and Evaluation Acceptance Plan (ITEAP). Possessing a good working knowledge of SATCOM Transmission Segment aspects and implementation options, including their advantages and disadvantages.
