You will take technical ownership of complex electrical systems from concept through integration, shaping safe and compliant solutions that genuinely reach service. The role is Dorset-based with a hybrid working pattern. Compressed hours or part‑time arrangements may be considered. The role is a permanent position.
What you will be doing:
- Leading end to end electrical and controls design for complex maritime and autonomous systems, from early concept through detailed design, integration and support into service.
- Defining electrical architectures, power distribution strategies and control approaches that meet performance, safety and regulatory requirements.
- Producing, reviewing and approving schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules and supporting technical documentation to a high assurance standard.
- Supporting system integration, commissioning and fault finding activities, remaining hands on where required to resolve complex electrical and controls issues.
- Working closely with mechanical, software and systems engineers to ensure electrical solutions are coherent and fully aligned at overall system level.
- Providing technical oversight, mentoring and guidance to engineers, helping to build team capability, consistency and engineering judgement.
Your experience:
- Degree qualified in electrical engineering or a closely related discipline, or able to demonstrate equivalent depth of professional experience.
- Solid experience designing electrical systems for complex products or platforms within regulated or safety critical environments.
- Strong working knowledge of power distribution, control systems and electrical safety principles.
- Experience using electrical CAD tools to create, maintain and control detailed design documentation.
- Practical understanding of UKCA or CE marking, electromagnetic compatibility and relevant electrical standards.
- Ability to balance technical rigour with cost, manufacturability and testability considerations while meeting programme objectives.

- Eligibility to obtain and maintain Security Check clearance.
- Strong background in electrical systems design within regulated or safety critical engineering environments.
- Proven experience delivering system level electrical designs through integration, test and acceptance.
- Confidence providing technical leadership, reviewing work and mentoring engineers.
