ETC is Hiring: Associate General Counsel

Location: Middleton, WI

What does this role actually do? In short? You're the person who helps the business navigate legal risks with confidence while keeping contracts moving.

Typical Responsibilities

  • Draft, negotiate, and review contracts for global business units (about 60–70% of your time)
  • Partner closely with business teams to provide practical, thoughtful legal guidance
  • Answer questions, spot risks early, and help teams move forward with clarity
  • Jump into new or emerging areas of law when they come up
  • Take ownership of your work while collaborating with leadership

  • Solid contracts experience: hands‐on experience drafting, negotiating, and reviewing contracts, whether from a law firm, in‐house role, or a mix of both.
  • Strong foundation in contract and core commercial legal principles: understanding of fundamentals and ability to apply them in real‐world business situations.

Representative Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement processes, templates, and best practices to support ETC's global business operations
  • Assess business transactions and operations to minimize legal and business risks for ETC's global business operations
  • Draft, negotiate, and maintain a variety of business agreements for ETC's global business operations
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments relevant to ETC's business and assist in translating those developments into practical compliance guidance and processes
  • Acquisitions and strategic partnership development
  • Coordinate external legal resources as needed
  • Assist with the maintenance of ETC's global IP portfolio
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Special projects and requests are completed in a timely and positive fashion
  • Ability to travel when necessary

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Juris doctorate degree from an accredited law school
  • Good standing as a member of the Wisconsin State Bar (or the ability to become a member)
  • 2-5 years legal experience with a global manufacturing company, corporate law, or related practice(s)
  • Excellent negotiation, research, and legal drafting skills
  • Ability to manage a broad and varied portfolio of legal matters in a fast-moving business environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and prioritize competing requests
  • Demonstrated ability to be organized, identify and mitigate risk, problem solve, and offer creative and practical solutions
  • Computer skills required; experience with a cloud-based contract system is preferred
