The Quality Manager ensures the technical integrity, compliance, and quality of all pyrometry and calibration services delivered to aerospace customers. Although the organisation is not ISO/IEC 17025 accredited, the role ensures that all processes, documentation, and measurement practices align with ISO/IEC 17025 principles, including uncertainty of measurement, traceability, and method control. The position provides technical leadership in AMS 2750 compliance, reporting quality, audit readiness, and continuous improvement across all service activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Pyrometry & Thermal Processing Compliance: Lead and oversee all pyrometry activities, including TUS, SAT, instrument calibration, and sensor control, in accordance with AMS 2750 (latest revision). Ensure all service outputs meet aerospace customer specifications (Rolls-Royce RPS, Airbus AIPS, Boeing BAC, Safran, etc.). Review and approve pyrometry reports, survey results, and compliance statements before release to customers. Provide expert technical guidance to customers on furnace classification, corrective actions, and compliance gaps.
- ISO/IEC 17025 Alignment, Traceability & Uncertainty of Measurement: Maintain internal processes that align with ISO/IEC 17025 principles, including traceability, uncertainty evaluation, method validation, and documentation discipline. Develop, maintain, and review uncertainty of measurement budgets for calibration and pyrometry activities. Ensure uncertainty contributions (sensor accuracy, resolution, stability, environmental effects, repeatability, etc.) are correctly evaluated and reflected in reports. Ensure all reference standards and measurement equipment maintain traceability to national/international standards. Demonstrate 17025 alignment during customer audits and technical reviews.
- Quality Management & Reporting: Produce and approve high-integrity technical reports, calibration certificates, and non-conformance investigations. Ensure all reports include appropriate uncertainty statements, traceability information, and compliance declarations. Lead root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) related to pyrometry and calibration issues. Maintain robust quality records, audit trails, and document control systems.
- Customer & Contract Support: Interpret customer specifications and ensure service delivery meets contractual and technical requirements. Act as the primary technical contact for customer quality queries, escalations, and audit discussions. Support contract reviews by assessing capability, scope, and compliance obligations. Build strong customer relationships through technical credibility and consistent service quality.
- Audit & Compliance Management: Lead preparation for customer audits, supplier assessments, and internal quality audits. Represent the company as the technical authority during aerospace customer audits. Drive corrective actions and continuous improvement following audit findings. Ensure readiness for potential future accreditation or certification expansions.
- Leadership & Continuous Improvement: Provide leadership and mentoring to calibration technicians, survey engineers, and quality personnel. Deliver training on pyrometry, measurement uncertainty, traceability, and aerospace compliance. Identify and implement improvements to enhance service efficiency, accuracy, and turnaround time. Promote a culture of technical excellence and compliance across the organisation.
