About the Role:

As Environment Director , you will shape the artistic vision of our game world and lead the team to deliver on that vision, ensuring environments are visually stunning, authentic, and immersive. Reporting to the Project Art Director, you’ll guide a multi-discipline team to deliver high-quality, engaging spaces that enhance gameplay. Collaborating with Design, Cinematics and Audio to deliver an engaging player experience across the game.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and drive environment art direction , crafting creative briefs and aligning with core game pillars.
  • Push visual quality , leveraging technology, storytelling, lighting, and composition to create immersive worlds.
  • Champion authentic, reference-driven environments that prioritize player experience and immersion.
  • Collaborate closely with Art, Lighting, VFX, and Tech Art teams to optimize workflows and establish best practices.
  • Lead team reviews , providing clear feedback and ensuring continuous improvement.
  • Own major world sections , defining scope, setting goals, and delivering outstanding results.
  • Work with Technical Art & Engineering to maintain performance and memory budgets.
  • Partner with Level Designers to balance artistic vision with gameplay needs.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members while setting the bar for external partners.
  • Coordinate with outsourcing teams , ensuring consistent, high-quality content across time zones.

What We Would Love You To Bring:

  • Proven experience in an environment art director or lead environment artist role, having shipped multiple AAA titles.
  • Strong leadership skills , knowing when to be hands-on and when to guide.
  • Confidence in communication , able to represent your team and share progress.
  • Expertise with tools like Unreal Engine, Frostbite, Maya, 3DS Max, Photoshop or Substance .
  • Deep understanding of game world-building workflows , including procedural tools and modular systems.
  • Strong artistic sense —visual composition, form, colour, and environmental storytelling.
  • Appreciation for art, animation, architecture, and landscapes in game environments.
  • Ability to foster and grow a strong environment art team promoting healthy collaboration and constant learning.
