Join us at Electronic Arts in Birmingham as a Senior Technical Artist focused on shaders, materials, and real-time rendering. Reporting to the Technical Art Director, you will develop shaders and rendering workflows that improve the visual quality of the official F1® games. Working across Art and Engineering, you will contribute to our proprietary technology and help create high-quality game content. This is a hybrid remote/in‑office role based in our Birmingham, UK studio.

Responsibilities
  • You will be the bridge between art and engineering, with a focus on materials, shaders, and rendering workflows.
  • Develop high‑quality HLSL shaders for our proprietary engine and DCC tools, including our HLSL‑based 3ds Max viewport pipeline.
  • Guide look development and improve visual fidelity across characters, environments, and vehicles while optimizing rendering performance to meet platform and project requirements.
  • Support artists in creating and optimizing assets by debugging rendering issues, improving material setups, and ensuring consistency between rendering environments.
  • Work with rendering engineers and artists to prototype and integrate new visual features.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience with real‑time engines and a digital content creation package such as 3ds MAX or Maya.
  • Experience writing, debugging and optimising shaders using HLSL or GLSL.
  • Knowledge of real‑time rendering principles, including PBR workflows, lighting models, and post‑processing, demonstrated in shipped game titles or equivalent projects.
  • Basic scripting knowledge in Python or MAXScript.

This is a hybrid role, with 3 days per week working from the locations listed in this job posting.
