Ellwood Atfield is delighted to have partnered with Electrical Safety First (ESF) to recruit for a Public Affairs Advisor.
Electrical Safety First is the UK’s leading charity on electrical safety, and they regularly work with the media, government, businesses, and electrical industry to make sure that everyone in the UK can use electricity safely. They campaign on issues including the regulation of e-bike and e-scooter batteries, product recall and registration, electrical DIY, the importance of using registered electricians and counterfeit electrical goods, through raising awareness with the public and working with politicians to ensure Government is doing all it can to keep people safe from electrical accidents.
The opportunity:
As a Public Affairs Advisor, you will support the Westminster team and work across departments on high-profile policy issues. From holding tech giants like online marketplaces accountable for unsafe products to shaping policies that protect the most vulnerable from electrical risks, your work will play a key role in powering change. Whether tackling substandard housing or cracking down on dangerous appliances, you’ll help ensure electrical safety remains a priority on the political agenda.
This role offers the opportunity to play an essential part in their growing campaigns. You will assist with coordinating parliamentary events and party conferences, monitoring political developments, drafting briefings, and managing stakeholder engagement. Your work will help ensure Electrical Safety First’s voice is heard at the highest levels of government.
Main responsibilities:
- Working with the Policy Public Affairs team to support the development and delivery of policy and public affairs strategy and campaigns, including mapping and tracking political stakeholders and identifying engagement opportunities
- Overseeing the administration of their All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG), which they plan to re-establish after a pause due to the General Election and capacity constraints.
- Preparing high-quality briefings for internal and external stakeholders
- Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders and political figures
- Support the organisation of parliamentary events and meetings with MPs, including drafting letters and invitations
- Identifying engagement opportunities with MPs is a key priority, given the recent influx of new MPs.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with parliamentarians and stakeholders
- Willingness to travel outside the workplace to attend exhibitions, conferences, team away days and meetings as agreed across the UK (funded by the charity).
Key skills and experience required:
- Previous experience in a similar role, internship, voluntary position, or other opportunity
- An interest in politics and knowledge of the UK political landscape and how Parliament works
- An interest in and motivation for Electrical Safety First’s cause, with a willingness to learn and grow within the role
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Proactive and self-motivated, with a demonstrable ability to identify opportunities for stakeholder engagement.
- Hybrid working (willing to travel for meetings)
- 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
