The Role: Electric Square is looking for an accomplished, enthusiastic, and self‑motivated Senior Mission Designer to join our Brighton-based team working on an exciting, critically acclaimed, AAA franchise. As a Senior Mission Designer, you know how to find the fun and what makes missions special. You understand how to engage, challenge, and surprise the player whilst ensuring and encouraging them to use the tools at their disposal. You are able to pitch mission designs and improvements in a clear and digestible way. You are able to create clear and concise documentation. You can plan and implement mission beats in‑engine and have experience in maintaining and balancing the flow and accessibility of missions. Your technical abilities allow you to prototype gameplay mechanics and, combined with your visual scripting skills, you’re able to quickly prototype your ideas into playable experiences. You have experience in creating spaces that make for great gameplay, be it for combat, traversal, or puzzle solving. You understand and have experience with the process of going from creating greybox spaces to shippable levels that provide amazing gameplay. You’re able to make a plan of attack for the delivery of your missions and can adjust and react when feedback comes in. You’re a great communicator who provides your team with regular updates and insights into your work.
Skills:
- Can concisely articulate mission ideas and analyse game mechanics
- Adept at using Visual scripting
- Comfortable prototyping mechanics and making rapid iterations
- Encounter design, including being able to use enemies to create engaging encounters
- Level layout / blockout to create interesting spaces for combat or traversal
- Able to plan and manage workload
- Comfortable with giving and receiving feedback
- Able to manage time and workload effectively
Qualification:
- 3+ years of professional experience as a designer working on missions
- At least 1 released title as a Senior Mission Designer
- Proficient with design tools used for commercial or proprietary game engines
- Knowledge of various support tools such as Miro, Jira, and Confluence
- Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Open to, and welcoming of, feedback and direction
- Needs to be based in the UK
- Experience on 3rd person action‑adventure titles
- Experience with cinematic set pieces within missions
- Experience working on melee combat games
- Ability to work on site a few days a week in our Brighton Studio
