Job Title: EMPTY CONTAINER HANDLER

Reports to: DEPOT MANAGER
1. Role Overview
Work as part of the yard team, liaising with the Depot Manager on prioritising work and customer requests. Communication is essential whilst working within a fast-paced environment. Ensure all aspects of the container traffic movements are adequately controlled, including offloading and loading containers. Repair bays and steam clean bays are prioritised and regularly turned to ensure repair staff have an adequate workload.
2. Duties & Key Responsibilities:
β’ General Responsibilities
- Must have held a valid forklift license for at least 12 months. Experience operating an Empty Container Handler (ECH) would be an advantage but is not essential as full training will be provided.
- Previous experience working in a container storage depot is advantageous but not essential.
- Operate the ECH to load and unload 20β and 40β containers from trailers and stack containers up to 6/7 high within the yard.
- Move containers around the depot onto repair bays and steam clean bays.
- Proven ability to plan ahead in a fast-paced, demanding, and evolving environment.
- Flexible to cover depot hours from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm.
- Maintain a positive attitude and be an excellent team player.
- Good communication skills and ability to liaise with yard and control staff via two-way radio.
- Remain focused, professional, and alert when operating ECH machines.
- Comply with all health and safety policies and procedures.
Work Hours:
40 hours per week, 8:00 am β 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. Overtime paid at time and a half for hours over 40.
