Are you a passionate environmental professional with experience in compliance, sustainability, and ISO management systems? We have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Manager to join our team at i2020, Belfast, BT5 6LB. This is a key leadership role responsible for managing and assuring the Environmental Service across the contract, ensuring full compliance with Northern Ireland environmental legislation, client requirements, and accredited management systems including ISO 14001 and ISO 50001. As the Environmental Manager, you will lead the environmental agenda across the contract, ensuring environmental risks are identified, monitored, and mitigated while driving high standards of compliance and performance. You will oversee the Environmental Management System (EMS), support the Energy Management System (EnMS), deliver audits and reporting, and work closely with senior leadership, operational teams, and the client to embed environmental best practice across all services. This role plays a critical part in ensuring environmental responsibilities are fully integrated into maintenance, projects, procurement, and day-to-day operational delivery.
What you’ll do
- Environmental Leadership & Governance
- Lead the Environmental Service across the contract
- Ensure high standards of environmental performance and legal compliance
- Maintain and oversee the Environmental Management System (ISO 14001)
- Support delivery of the Energy Management System (ISO 50001)
- Provide expert advice to the Head of Sustainability, Head of SHEQ, Contract Director, Senior Leadership Team, and Client
- Embed environmental considerations across maintenance, projects, procurement, and operations
- Environmental Compliance & Assurance
- Ensure compliance with Northern Ireland environmental legislation, regulations, and client policies
- Maintain compliance registers, schedules, and assurance certificates
- Ensure all documentation is accurate, current, and audit-ready
- Support client audits, internal reviews, and external assurance activities
- Oversee compliance relating to: waste and recycling, pollution prevention and control, hazardous materials, energy and water regulations, carbon reporting, environmental permits where applicable
- ISO Systems, Audits & Monitoring
- Maintain and continuously improve the ISO 14001 EMS
- Support implementation and maintenance of ISO 50001
- Lead audits, inspections, and performance reviews
- Track corrective actions, non-conformances, and improvement plans through to closure
- Deliver the environmental audit programme across: contract services, maintenance activities, construction works, waste and recycling operations, energy and water systems
- Risk, Reporting & Sustainability
- Maintain the Environmental Risk Register
- Identify, assess, and mitigate environmental risks
- Support NEC4 early warnings, risk reduction meetings, and compensation events
- Produce monthly environmental reports, dashboards, and KPI updates
- Maintain accurate environmental data across CAFM, EMS, and reporting systems
- Support public sector reporting, FOIs, legal challenges, and assurance reviews
- Training & Culture
- Deliver environmental training, inductions, and awareness programmes
- Ensure staff and contractors understand environmental responsibilities
- Promote a strong culture of environmental responsibility and continuous improvement
- Support wider SHEQ education and training initiatives
What you bring
We’re looking for an experienced environmental professional who combines technical expertise with strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.
Essential
- Degree in: Environmental Management, Sustainability, Environmental Science or related discipline
- Strong knowledge of Northern Ireland environmental legislation
- Essential understanding of ISO 14001 and ISO 50001
- Minimum 2+ years’ experience in environmental management within: property, facilities management, public sector estates
- Experience implementing Environmental Management Systems
- Experience conducting environmental audits and inspections
- Experience monitoring KPIs and reporting performance
Desirable
- Professional membership such as IEMA, CIWM, CIEEM, Energy Institute
- Experience in carbon foot printing and decarbonisation
- NEC3 / NEC4 contract experience
