Elb Recruit is working exclusively with a well-established, privately owned civil and structural engineering practice in the Tees Valley to appoint an experienced Civil Engineer with strong roads and drainage design expertise. This is an excellent opportunity to step into a key technical role within a close-knit team, delivering high-quality development and infrastructure projects across the North East.
With a strong regional client base and a healthy pipeline of residential, commercial and industrial schemes, you’ll be joining a stable, people-focused practice where your contribution genuinely matters and career development is supported at every stage.
The Role
We’re seeking a motivated engineer with around five or more years’ experience in civil engineering design, ideally within a consultancy environment. You’ll take responsibility for design packages, collaborate with internal and external teams, and deliver practical, buildable solutions from concept through to detailed design and construction support. You’ll also have the opportunity to mentor junior engineers and help shape the continued growth of the practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver designs for highways, drainage, utilities and SuDS systems for a variety of development projects.
- Prepare and review technical reports, drawings and detailed calculations.
- Use design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D or PDS, and Flow/MicroDrainage.
- Analyse topographical surveys, ground investigation data and project constraints.
- Liaise confidently with local authorities, clients, contractors and utility providers to support smooth project progress.
- Contribute to fee proposals, project programming and resource planning.
- Ensure all design work meets relevant UK legislation including the Highways Act, Water Industry Act, DMRB, Sewers for Adoption and applicable standards.
About You
- Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
- Proven roads and drainage design experience within the UK.
- Strong technical capability with excellent attention to detail.
- Clear and confident communicator who enjoys working collaboratively in a small team.
- Chartered or working towards Chartership (ICE) is advantageous but not essential.
