The Opportunity

Are you an experienced Principal Structural Engineer looking to lead, inspire, and deliver outstanding projects in the Manchester region? ELB Recruit is working in partnership with a highly respected, multidisciplinary engineering consultancy to appoint a talented leader to head up their Civil & Structural Engineering team. Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership
    • Lead and oversee the design and delivery of structural engineering projects from concept through to completion.
    • Manage project teams to ensure the highest technical standards and efficient delivery of all project stages.
    • Oversee structural calculations, analysis, and design reports, ensuring compliance with codes and regulations.
    • Encourage innovative design approaches while maintaining rigorous quality assurance.
  • Team Management & Development
    • Manage, mentor, and support a team of engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance and career development.
    • Lead performance reviews and support professional progression towards chartership.
    • Plan and allocate resources effectively across multiple projects to meet deadlines and budgets.
    • Foster a positive, collaborative team culture built on trust, communication, and shared success.
  • Client & Business Engagement
    • Build and maintain long-term relationships with clients, architects, and contractors.
    • Lead and contribute to bids, proposals, and tender submissions.
    • Represent the consultancy at client meetings and industry events, helping to strengthen reputation and identify new opportunities.

About You

  • Degree-qualified (MEng or BEng) in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Chartered or actively working towards Chartered status (IStructE or ICE).
  • Proven experience delivering and managing building structures projects across multiple sectors.
  • Strong technical expertise in structural design, analysis, and modelling software.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, motivate, and develop a team.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
  • A proactive mindset with a passion for innovation and sustainable engineering solutions.
