Associate Transport Planner

About the Role

Elb Recruit are working with a growing multidisciplinary engineering consultancy looking to appoint an Associate Transport Planner to lead and grow their Transport Planning offering.

This isn't a role where you'll simply pick up an existing workload.

The business already has strong relationships across the development sector and is looking for someone who can establish, develop and grow a Transport Planning team and service line.

You'll be involved from the earliest stages of development, providing pre-planning advice, site appraisals, development feasibility assessments and strategic transport input to help shape projects before they enter the planning process.

You'll be responsible for winning work, developing client relationships, overseeing project delivery and helping build a team as the workload grows.

The role would suit someone currently operating at Senior, Principal or Associate level who wants more responsibility and the opportunity to build something rather than slot into an established structure.

The consultancy works across residential, commercial, industrial, education, healthcare and mixed-use developments, providing civil, structural and infrastructure engineering services throughout the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the growth of the Transport Planning business.
  • Develop existing client relationships and generate new opportunities.
  • Provide strategic transport advice at pre-planning stage, including site appraisals, development feasibility studies and access reviews.
  • Prepare and oversee fee proposals and bid submissions.
  • Manage the delivery of transport planning projects from initial feasibility and pre-planning stages through to planning approval.
  • Review and oversee Transport Assessments, Transport Statements and Travel Plans.
  • Act as the main point of contact for clients, Local Authorities and project stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the Civil Engineering and Infrastructure teams to identify opportunities for cross-selling services.
  • Recruit, mentor and develop Transport Planning staff as the team grows.
  • Manage project performance, programme and profitability.
  • Support the wider business with strategic growth plans and service development.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, Planning or a related discipline.
  • Strong background within a Transport Planning consultancy.
  • Good understanding of the UK planning and development process.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements and Travel Plans.
  • Experience providing pre-planning advice, site feasibility assessments and development strategy input.
  • Knowledge of Junctions (PICADY and ARCADY), Lin Sig, TRICS and TEMPro.
  • Experience managing projects and client relationships.
  • Commercial awareness and an interest in business development.
  • Strong communication and report writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and help drive a growing business forward.
  • What's on Offer
  • Opportunity to build and lead a Transport Planning team.
  • Clear route for progression as the business grows.
  • Autonomy to develop the service line and make the role your own.
  • Strong support from an established multidisciplinary consultancy.
  • Involvement in a wide range of development projects across the UK.

About the Company

Our client is an established engineering consultancy providing Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering and Infrastructure Design services to developers, contractors and private sector clients across the UK.

Following continued growth, they are investing in Transport Planning as a key part of their long-term strategy and are looking for an individual who can help establish and grow the discipline within the business.

This is a genuine opportunity for someone who wants to have a real influence on the direction of a business, develop client relationships, win work and build a team around them.
