Elb Recruit are representing a leading multidisciplinary consultancy in the UK who are currently seeking a Senior Highway Engineer to join their team.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in shaping local transport networks and infrastructure, working on high-profile schemes such as York Central with Homes England, the A641 Active Travel scheme in West Yorkshire, and, subject to confirmation, exciting new roles expected to be released under SDF2 with National Highways, where this consultancy acts as a preferred site support partner for NH.

The Role

As a Senior Highway Engineer, you will lead design teams on major highways and public realm projects, ensuring technical excellence and delivering sustainable, innovative solutions. You’ll be involved throughout the full project life cycle - from concept and preliminary design through to detailed design, construction support, and handover.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading significant aspects of highway design, including drawings, specifications, reports, and calculations.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to provide integrated and sustainable engineering solutions.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior engineers and technicians.
  • Engaging with clients and stakeholders to provide expert technical input and advice.
  • Preparing and reviewing feasibility studies, design documentation, and technical reports.
  • Ensuring all work is delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest technical standards.

About You

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional qualification (IEng/CEng) or working towards.
  • Experience in highway geometry design using Civils 3D, and/or drainage software such as Causeway Flow, InfoDrainage, or ACO’s QuAD tool. (We’re happy to speak with engineers who have experience in just one of these.)
  • Knowledge of DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20, TSRGD, MCHW, and Traffic Signs Manuals.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to present design solutions clearly to clients and stakeholders.
  • Enthusiasm to lead teams and deliver high-quality outcomes on complex projects.
