We are seeking an experienced Principal or Senior Drainage / Flood Risk Engineer to join a growing infrastructure team. This is an excellent opportunity to take a lead role on a diverse range of private development projects, including commercial units, retail parks, residential schemes and complex highway‑related infrastructure works. You will play a key role in supporting the business across multiple workstreams, providing technical leadership on drainage and flood risk projects while helping to shape and grow the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical & Design
- Lead the design and delivery of drainage and infrastructure solutions for private developments and associated highway works
- Develop SUDS strategies and produce adoptable drainage and road designs
- Utilise industry software including Civil 3D, PDS, MicroDrainage/Causeway Flow and AutoCAD
- Prepare Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies
- Undertake site inspections and attend technical and design meetings
- Project Leadership
- Manage projects to ensure delivery within agreed budgets, programmes and quality standards
- Provide technical leadership across project teams
- Coordinate multidisciplinary inputs to achieve project objectives
- Support business growth by contributing to new workstreams and client development
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with statutory bodies, including local authorities, highways teams and water authorities
- Build and maintain strong client relationships
- Provide expert technical advice on drainage and flood risk throughout project lifecycle
- Quality & Compliance
- Ensure designs comply with regulatory requirements and best practice guidance
- Maintain high standards of technical excellence and service delivery
- Support internal quality assurance processes
- Leadership & Mentoring
- Mentor and support junior engineers and technicians
- Encourage knowledge sharing and professional development within the team
- Help foster a collaborative and positive working culture
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline)
- Chartered or working toward chartership (ICE, CIWEM or equivalent)
- Strong post‑graduate experience in drainage and flood risk engineering
- Proven background in private development and highway‑related infrastructure schemes
- Proficiency in relevant design software
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience managing budgets and project programmes
- Strong problem‑solving ability and sound engineering judgement
