The Corporate Counsel role is to act as a legal adviser with a focus on payments, delivering regulatory and contracting support for engagements with payment facilitators, card schemes, merchants, and partners. A large part of the role will be advising on new and existing legislation, with opportunities to advise on contract negotiations, new product creation, and engage with other divisions across U.S. Bank and its parent U.S. Bank National Association.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Engaging with industry organisations and external counsel;
- Managing legal costs;
- Directing and overseeing outside counsel throughout Europe;
- Reviewing and assisting in the implementation and rollout of U.S. Bank internal policies and procedures throughout Europe to ensure conformity with local law;
- Updating contract templates and providing legal advice.
Qualifications:
- Legal qualification in the United Kingdom (qualified as solicitor or barrister) for 1-5 years PQE;
- Practical experience within the UK or experience as corporate counsel;
- Pan-European and previous payments experience highly regarded;
- Ability to interact effectively with staff at multiple levels in the organisation;
- Excellent verbal and presentation skills;
- Effective writing skills;
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple instructions simultaneously;
- Ability to learn and communicate key payments and legal concepts.
The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, with an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.
