Due to continued expansion, we are recruiting an experienced Production Supervisor to join our well-established client. The Production Supervisor is a hands-on, working supervisor, responsible for leading from the shop floor while actively participating in day-to-day manufacturing activities. The Production Supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining flow, standards and engagement on shift, acting as the first point of leadership for operators and ensuring policies, processes and improvement activities are executed consistently. The role supports the Production & H&S Manager by translating plans and improvements into safe, effective daily operations.

Duties:

  • Hands-On Production & Operational Support: Act as a hands-on supervisor with a consistent presence on the shop floor, supporting and guiding all production activities. Operate production equipment and perform manual/physical tasks as required to support flow, cover absence, meet customer demand and resolve bottlenecks. Carry out basic operator maintenance, first-line problem solving and process checks. Provide in-the-moment coaching and instruction to operators to ensure safe, correct working methods. Step in across departments and value streams as required to maintain operational continuity.
  • Production Control & Delivery: Responsible for day-to-day production scheduling within assigned areas. Support the achievement of On-Time Delivery (OTD) targets through active shop-floor control. Ensure all production transactions are completed accurately and on time within JDE or equivalent systems. Ensure accurate transfer of parts between departments, maintaining count and traceability. Monitor labour deployment, overtime usage and short-term capacity.
  • Health, Safety & Environment: Actively lead by example on health and safety, ensuring safe systems of work are followed at all times. Carry out regular safety audits, raise actions, close out findings and update safety dashboards. Ensure immediate response to unsafe conditions, near misses or incidents. Support environmental compliance through adherence to site procedures and good housekeeping.
  • Quality & Process Adherence: Ensure compliance with quality procedures, operating instructions and standard work. Carry out in-process checks and support investigation of quality issues. Work closely with Quality to address causes of defects and prevent recurrence. Maintain high standards of 5S, visual management and process discipline.
  • Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement: Actively support the deployment of Lean tools, including 5S, Kanban and value-stream control. Ensure sustainment of improvements on the shop floor, not just implementation. Encourage operator involvement in continuous improvement and problem solving. Manage value streams to pitch and update relevant performance dashboards.
  • People Management & Development: Provide day-to-day supervision and support to production operatives. Manage absence, conduct return-to-work interviews and support attendance improvement. Authorise holidays in line with operational requirements. Contribute to performance reviews and staff appraisals in line with company timelines. Maintain and actively use the training matrix, identifying skill gaps and supporting cross-skilling. Set clear expectations for behaviour, performance and teamwork.
  • Site & Security Responsibilities: Act as a designated key holder, responsible for day-to-day site security when required. Ensure the work area is clean, safe, secure and compliant at all times.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a hands-on supervisor or senior operator within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to lead from the front, maintaining credibility through practical involvement.
  • Confident problem solver with good root-cause analysis skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage operators at all levels.
  • Comfortable working in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment.
  • Competent IT skills, including ERP/MRP systems such as JDE.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in a pressured production environment.

Starting Salary: Competitive. This is a Full time, Permanent position.
