We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Developer Experience Team. In this role, you will bring deep expertise in programming languages and ecosystems to a distributed team of engineers spanning various technical disciplines. You will help build, maintain, and support client libraries, SDKs, and framework integrations across a broad range of languages. The Developer Experience Team is the primary bridge between Elastic's product suite and the developers who build on top of it. We create the libraries, tools, and integrations that make it easy to embed Elastic into real‑world applications, and we engage directly with the communities that use them. As the AI and agentic landscape evolves rapidly, this team plays a central role in ensuring Elastic is a first‑class citizen in that ecosystem, from GenAI frameworks to vector search to agent tooling. You will be working on fully open‑source code embedded within user applications. That means understanding the implications of writing software in the open, managing versioning and releases carefully, and engaging with users directly in public forums and repositories.
What you will be doing
- You’ll be developing, maintaining, and supporting libraries and third‑party integrations for the Elastic Stack across a range of programming languages.
- You’ll build and evolve integrations with GenAI frameworks, agentic tooling, and the broader AI ecosystem.
- You’ll use AI coding tools daily for writing, reviewing, and testing code, as a core productivity lever.
- You’ll support users through GitHub issues, forums, and official support channels.
- You’ll collaborate with external maintainers to deepen Elastic’s reach across the ecosystems that matter to developers.
- You’ll represent Elastic in developer communities through open source, talks, or writing.
- You’ll contribute to technical direction and help define how the team approaches new tools and integrations.
What you bring
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with a meaningful portion spent building, releasing, and maintaining public‑facing libraries or SDKs.
- Production experience in at least two of: Python, TypeScript, Go, Java, C#, and a track record of picking up new languages as needed.
- Knowledge of HTTP, RESTful APIs, and open‑source development practices.
- A strong focus on usability and developer experience.
- Hands‑on mastery of AI coding tools.
- Understanding of vector databases and their role in AI/search architectures.
- Genuine interest in the agentic AI ecosystem.
- Bias to action: you make pragmatic calls, ship, and iterate.
- Strong communication skills; comfortable engaging with users publicly and working in a remote, distributed team.
Bonus points
- Active in tech communities via open source, writing, or talks (nice to have).
- Prior experience with Elastic products (nice to have).
Additional Information – We Take Care of Our People
- Competitive pay based on the work you do here and not your previous salary.
- Health coverage for you and your family in many locations.
- Ability to craft your calendar with flexible locations and schedules for many roles.
- Generous number of vacation days each year.
- Increase your impact — we match up to $2000 (or local currency equivalent) for financial donations and service.
- Up to 40 hours each year to use toward volunteer projects you love.
- Embracing parenthood with a minimum of 16 weeks of parental leave.
Security & Privacy Responsibilities
- Take ownership of protecting the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of organizational data and systems by following applicable privacy and security policies, standards, and procedures.
- Ensure that all individual contributions follow Elastic’s Secure Software Development Framework (SSDF).
- Proactively participate in mandatory role‑based training to ensure personal technical execution consistently aligns with the highest standards of data protection, data privacy, and system resilience.
