What is The Role: Elastic is hiring a Senior UX Designer to help design and evolve Elastic.co, our flagship website and a critical surface for product discovery, education, and conversion. This is not a "page production" role. You will own complex, content-rich experiences end-to-end—from problem framing and information architecture to interaction design, validation, and implementation partnership. You will operate with strong autonomy, systems thinking, and the ability to influence decisions across Product Marketing, PM, Content, SEO, Localization, UX Engineering, and Engineering.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Create and improve scalable web experiences across Elastic.co by designing reusable foundations, components, patterns, and modules.
- Lead work end-to-end using a structured approach (e.g., Double Diamond): Discover insights and context, Define the problem and success criteria, Develop solutions through iteration, and Deliver through implementation partnership and UX QA.
- Define interaction behavior, variants and states, including responsive behavior and accessibility considerations.
- Apply strong UX fundamentals to ensure solutions support clarity, hierarchy, usability, and consistency across experiences.
- Apply visual design fundamentals within system constraints to ensure high-quality UI craft (layout, spacing, typography, color, and component composition).
- Frame problems effectively by aligning on user goals, key tasks, constraints, and success criteria before execution.
- Validate and iterate using lightweight methods (heuristic reviews, usability feedback, and data signals) to improve usability over time.
- Partner closely with Engineering and UX Engineering to ensure design-to-build alignment in a component-based workflow.
- Produce clear specs and documentation (usage guidance, do/don't, and content structure guidance) so others can confidently adopt shared patterns.
- Identify and reduce design debt by consolidating duplicates and improving consistency across the site.
What You Bring:
- 5+ years of UX/Product Design experience, including meaningful work on component-driven web/product design (design system experience is a plus).
- A strong portfolio demonstrating both UX craft and UI craft: reusable patterns/components, clear hierarchy, usability-driven decisions, and polished execution.
- Comfort running work through an end-to-end UX process (e.g., Double Diamond: Discover, Define, Develop, Deliver) and adapting based on constraints.
- Strong command of core UX principles: usability, information hierarchy, interaction design, user flows, content structure, and heuristic-based evaluation.
- Strong visual design fundamentals: typography, color, spacing, layout, visual hierarchy, and consistency—with the ability to apply them within shared frameworks.
- Solid understanding of responsive behavior and accessibility fundamentals.
- Proven experience partnering with engineers in a component-based delivery model, with an understanding of constraints and trade-offs.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills—able to explain decisions clearly and influence outcomes with cross-functional partners.
- Proficiency in Figma (libraries, components, documentation workflows).
- Comfortable giving/receiving feedback and supporting other designers through reviews and coaching.
Bonus Points:
- Familiarity with SEO-informed UX and partnership with Marketing on growth-focused websites.
- Experience with B2B, enterprise, and/or developer-focused products and audiences.
- Exposure to usability testing, analytics, experimentation, A/B testing, or research.
- Experience supporting or mentoring teammates.
