Engineering Manager - Platform Billing in London

Platform Billing sits at the heart of Elastic's Cloud business. Our mission is to deliver a simple, transparent, and flexible SaaS billing experience that scales globally across AWS, GCP, and Azure. We build and operate the systems that power Elastic's usage-based and consumption billing models, marketplace integrations, and the financial data pipelines that support accurate customer invoicing and certified revenue reporting.

Within Platform Billing, the Billing Experience (BEX) team owns the customer-facing and API layers of our billing platform. We design and build the public and internal APIs, user experiences in Elastic Cloud consoles, and the surrounding ecosystem that enables customers and internal partners to understand, trust, and manage their billing data. Our work spans UX, APIs, financial data surfaces, cross-team integrations, and high-scale backend systems.

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Billing Experience team. You will manage a highly skilled group of backend, frontend, and full-stack engineers who build and operate the customer billing interfaces, APIs, and workflows that sit on top of Elastic's global billing platform. As a manager in Platform Billing, you will drive engineering excellence, operational maturity, and product quality. This role blends people leadership, system thinking, and strong cross-functional collaboration with Product, Design, Finance, SRE, and peer engineering teams. You will play a key role in scaling our next-generation consumption billing model and shaping the future of billing UX in Elastic Cloud.

• Experience leading and growing diverse engineering teams as a people manager.
• A strong engineering foundation (backend or full-stack), enabling you to discuss architecture, design, and tradeoffs with confidence.
• Demonstrated ability to drive execution in a distributed, cross-team environment.
• A deep focus on operational excellence, reliability, and customer experience.
• Understanding of large-scale data pipelines, APIs, or complex distributed systems.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to influence and align across multiple stakeholders.
• A mindset that values well-designed systems, clear processes, and continuous improvement.

Bonus Points

• Experience in billing systems, fintech, metering, subscription platforms, or financial reporting.
• Familiarity with any of the major cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Experience building and operating customer-facing financial UX or APIs.
• Background as a hands-on software engineer (backend, full-stack, or systems).
• Exposure to compliance frameworks (SOX or similar) or secure data handling.
• Curiosity about SaaS business metrics, customer lifecycle, usage analytics, and growth levers.
