Electronics & Embedded Software Engineer
We are recruiting for an innovative UK engineering and technology business looking to strengthen its R&D team with an experienced Electronics & Embedded Software Engineer.
This is a hands-on position combining electronics, embedded software, PCB design and motor control, offering the opportunity to work across the complete product lifecycle — from initial concept and development through to testing, deployment and ongoing improvement.
You’ll work closely with senior engineering colleagues on both existing technology and the development of new products.
The Role
Key responsibilities will include:
- Designing schematics and PCB layouts for electronic assemblies
- Designing, developing and testing embedded software
- Developing new products and improving existing systems
- Working with embedded electronic and control systems
- Supporting motor control and motor drive development
- Producing BOMs and supporting component selection, sourcing and procurement
- Working closely with mechanical, design and wider engineering teams
- Creating and maintaining technical and design documentation
- Testing, diagnosing and fault-finding electronic systems
- Carrying out safety and risk assessments
- Translating technical and commercial requirements into practical electronic solutions
We are looking for someone with:
- 5+ years' experience within electronics, embedded systems or a closely related engineering role
- Degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems or a related technical discipline
- Experience with embedded software and electronics development
- Experience using EDA/PCB design packages such as Altium Designer, Cadence or OrCAD
- Experience with schematic capture, PCB layout and electronic simulation
- Brushless DC motor experience would be particularly advantageous
- Experience with wireless technologies such as Bluetooth and GNSS
- Experience designing and maintaining embedded control systems
- Strong hands-on ability with oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, data loggers/analysers and other electronic test equipment
- Ability to read circuit diagrams, PCB schematics and technical drawings
- Strong electronic fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
