Your Role
We're looking for a hands-on Multi-Skilled Engineering Technician to join our Reliability Team at our Speke manufacturing site.
This is a brand-new role created to improve asset reliability, reduce repeat failures, minimise downtime, and accelerate the resolution of recurring equipment issues across the site.
You'll become part of a specialist engineering team focused on identifying root causes, delivering sustainable corrective actions, and improving long-term equipment performance - not just fixing the same problem repeatedly.
Working Monday to Friday (day shift), you'll support a wide range of manufacturing equipment, including packaging lines, process equipment, filling systems, mixing vessels, utilities, and automation systems.
This role is for you if you enjoy solving problems that others haven't been able to fix.
You're naturally curious, analytical, and comfortable working across different types of manufacturing equipment.
You thrive in a collaborative environment, communicate well with both engineers and manufacturing teams, and take pride in finding practical, long-term solutions rather than temporary fixes.
Most importantly, you enjoy being part of a team that will play a key role in improving equipment reliability and helping shape the future of engineering performance at the Speke site.
This role combines hands-on technical support with proactive reliability improvement activity, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both fault finding and preventing issues from recurring.
Your Responsibilities
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, and automation equipment failures across the manufacturing site.
- Investigate recurring equipment issues, identify root causes, and implement sustainable corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Carry out both reactive maintenance and planned reliability activities to maximise equipment availability.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment performance, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Work across a diverse range of equipment, including packaging lines, filling and mixing systems, utilities, and automated manufacturing equipment.
- Collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to minimise downtime and improve site performance.
- Record maintenance activities using the site's Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS), ensuring accurate failure reporting, corrective actions, and maintenance history are captured.
- Promote safe working practices while ensuring compliance with site quality and engineering standards.
- Support problem-solving and root cause investigations using a structured approach to identify trends, failure modes, and long-term improvement opportunities.
- Contribute to improving equipment uptime, reliability, and maintainability on key site assets.
What You Need to Succeed (minimum qualifications)
- NVQ Level 3, ONC, HNC, or equivalent qualification.
- Experience in a manufacturing or industrial maintenance environment with exposure to fault finding, equipment improvement, and planned maintenance activities.
- Multi-skilled engineering experience with both mechanical and electrical fault finding.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while building effective relationships across multiple teams.
- Ability to analyse repeat equipment failures and support practical, data-led solutions.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with operators, engineers, and cross-functional teams.
What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)
- Experience working within pharmaceutical, chemical, food, FMCG, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of PLC-controlled equipment and industrial automation, including the ability to carry out first-line fault finding on automated systems.
- Experience with reliability engineering, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
- Experience using condition monitoring techniques such as vibration analysis or ultrasound.
- VCAT Level I qualification (or willingness to work towards certification).
- Experience using CMMS data to identify repeat failures, track trends, and support reliability improvement plans.
- Experience working with a wide range of pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment, including packaging lines, process equipment, filling systems, mixing vessels, site utilities, and automated production systems, within a regulated and quality-focused environment.
