Elac Study Vacations is an independent school with 8 UK centres and has been operating for over 30 years. Elac runs various programmes, teaching English language and culture to international students aged between 9-17 years old. Our centres are all based in the United Kingdom at Hayward's Heath, Bath, Horsham, Eastbourne, Nottingham, Cirencester, and Berkhamsted, and run for 4-6 weeks from the beginning of July.
We are looking for applicants who are committed and have a genuine interest in teaching young learners. Previous summer school experience is welcome although not essential. It is a great environment for newly qualified teachers as there is a lot of support and many opportunities for development; a wonderful way to launch your TEFL career!
Tasks
Teachers are contracted to work 27 contact teaching and/or testing and orientation hours each week, though contracted hours will not necessarily be used equally throughout your contract. Most lessons are pre-prepared and have been carefully developed to help students develop their language and 21st Century skills. There is, however, some opportunity for teachers to use their own lesson plans, allowing you to be creative but not having to plan every lesson. Lessons can be repeated daily which cuts down on planning time considerably. One of our centres (Cirencester) also caters for 7-10 years old. If you have any experience with this age group or of teaching English through performance, please mention this in your application.
Residential Teachers will also complete 1 educational excursion per week (10 hours) to help offset the cost of accommodation, but they WILL NOT have any pastoral duties i.e., no night-time duties or wake-up calls.
Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A Degree
- TEFLi certificate, for example, CELTA or Trinity Cert. TESOL: a certificate externally validated and with at least 100 hours of input and at least 6 hours supervised teaching practice with real students, or
- PGCE English/Modern Languages with ELT/TESOL subsidiary and EFL teaching experience, or
- University Certificate in ELT/TESOL course subsidiary and EFL teaching experience.
Applicants without a degree but who hold a relevant EFL teaching qualification and experience may be considered. If you do not have any of the above qualifications, please consider our other summer roles and send us your CV to see if we have any suitable positions.
NB: Our centres use Smart TVs or electronic whiteboards, and the prep-prepared lessons are via PowerPoint, so familiarity with these technologies would be useful.
Benefits
Teacher basic salaries from £485 to £525 per week. Teacher total weekly pay from £465.17 to £588.37 per week if no holiday is taken: Holiday pay in lieu of any untaken holiday (12.07% of total gross salary) will be added at the end of the contract. Residential staff have board and accommodation included, though a weekly accommodation supplement will be deducted. There are no additional pastoral duties involved. We believe strongly in our responsibility to promote the development of our teachers, and consequently, we have an excellent programme of staff development.
CONTRACTS
Contracts are for 4 weeks with the possibility of an additional 2 weeks. Shorter contracts may also be available, please ask. Staff training takes place 1 or 2 days before the Centre start date.
