All four of our partners (Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial and BAM) bring specialist expertise in the design, construction, operation, financing and maintenance of railway networks, including the construction of one of Europe’s latest high speed rail projects.
We’re looking to recruit an Environmental Manager to join our team based in Milton Keynes. The Environment Manager (RW) role seeks to provide robust environmental governance to the C23 Main Works Civils Contract across environmental, carbon and sustainability disciplines, ensuring alignment with HS2 requirements, regulatory obligations and EKFB commitments. The role is responsible and accountable for carbon performance, but will also support sustainability deliverables and supporting environmental performance across the route, proactively managing risks and responding to emerging environmental and sustainability challenges across a range of topics.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide route-wide strategic environmental management to support consistent implementation of EMRs, CoCP and the EKFB EMS across all sections.
- Support environmental governance and assurance, including ISO 14001 audits, compliance reviews and incident management.
- Lead carbon management across the project, including oversight of whole life carbon assessments (LCA) and alignment with PAS 2080 and net zero targets.
- Drive integration of carbon into design, procurement and construction, influencing decision-making and methodologies.
- Identify and coordinate carbon reduction opportunities across the route, engaging delivery teams and supply chain partners.
- Manage environmental and carbon performance reporting, including KPIs, Carbon Index and client (HS2) submissions.
- Provide functional leadership to project teams and act as the key interface with HS2, senior leadership and supply chain partners.
- Support sustainability performance and reporting, ensuring integration of carbon, waste, water and responsible sourcing data through project systems.
- Provide agile environmental support to the Senior Environment team on emergent topics, which may include soils & landscaping, environmental risks & opportunities, environmental consenting & archaeology.
About You
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Relevant degree in the environmental sciences or complementary discipline.
- Extensive experience in environmental management & sustainability in the construction / civils sector.
- Major infrastructure project experience desirable.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills essential with proven ability to negotiate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Registered Environmental Practitioner (or similar) pursuing Full Member / Chartered Environmentalist status.
- Knowledge of NEC contractual processes desirable.
- Strong knowledge of environmental compliance and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001).
- Understanding of carbon management, including LCA and PAS 2080.
- You must hold a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
- You must hold a CSCS card (White, White/Yellow or Black card).
