Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Animal Care Teacher to deliver one-to-one lessons to students with diverse needs, including those with SEND. In this role, you will have the opportunity to teach and support students who are unable to attend mainstream schooling, helping them engage with studies through tailored and accessible lessons. Lessons may take place in students' homes, local farms or other animal-based environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver individualised Animal Care lessons that are aligned with the student's academic level and learning objectives.
- Teach a range of topics up to BTEC or equivalent levels.
- Ability to promote animal care/handling understanding, engagement and motivation in students.
- Remain patient and flexible in the approach to learning by adapting lesson content and teaching methods to support students with SEND and other learning challenges.
- Implement and maintain safety protocols for all farm/animal related activities, ensuring that students understand and adhere to safety guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Track and assess student progress through assignments, tests, and projects to ensure understanding of animal care concepts and practical applications, providing regular feedback to students, parents, and staff.
- Facilitate hands-on learning experiences in settings such as farms or animal-based environment to provide students with practical skills.
- Possess excellent communication skills, and be able to work collaboratively with pastoral teams to ensure holistic support for each student.
- Maintain thorough records of lessons and progress in line with educational requirements.
- Complete daily planning, weekly records, and 6-weekly plans of work.
Requirements
- Significant experience with animal care, or experience on a farm/working with animals in other settings.
- Experience working with SEND students is highly desirable.
- Excellent knowledge on animal welfare/housing/handling and related topics.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with other animal/agricultural professionals, with the ability to engage and inspire students in a one-to-one setting.
- Flexibility to work in various locations, including students' homes, potential farm locations or other animal-based environment.
- A valid DBS check (or willingness to undergo one).
