Job Purpose

To support the Nursery Manager in the day-to-day running of the nursery, ensuring high standards of childcare, education, safeguarding, and staff practice are maintained at all times. To assist in leading the nursery team and provide a safe, caring, stimulating, and inclusive environment for children in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Leadership and Management

  • Support the Nursery Manager with daily nursery operations.
  • Lead the nursery in the Manager’s absence.
  • Support, motivate, and supervise staff to ensure high-quality practice.
  • Assist with staff inductions, supervisions, appraisals, and training.
  • Promote positive teamwork and professional conduct.
  • Support recruitment and staff rota management where required.

Childcare and Learning

  • Ensure all children receive high-quality care and learning opportunities.
  • Monitor planning, observations, and assessments in line with the EYFS.
  • Support staff in meeting children's individual developmental needs.
  • Promote inclusive practice and support children with additional needs.
  • Ensure children's wellbeing, safety, and happiness are prioritised.

Safeguarding and Welfare

  • Act in accordance with safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Report and manage safeguarding concerns appropriately.
  • Ensure the nursery complies with health and safety requirements.
  • Carry out risk assessments and monitor safe working practices.

Parent Partnerships

  • Build positive and professional relationships with parents/carers.
  • Support with parent meetings, enquiries, and concerns.
  • Ensure effective communication between the nursery and families.
  • Promote the nursery positively within the community.
  • Ensure policies and procedures are followed consistently.
