Senior Patent Attorney – Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals Overview
Are you an experienced EPA and/or CPA qualified Patent Attorney with a background in Biochemistry, Chemistry or Genetics looking for a role where you can combine high-level strategic IP counselling with sophisticated biotechnology and pharmaceutical patent work? This opportunity is particularly well suited to Attorneys who have worked in‑house and enjoy operating at the intersection of innovation and commercial IP advice. Equally, those from private practice seeking greater involvement in portfolio strategy, licensing and business‑focused IP advice will find a genuine opportunity to broaden their impact. Experience of advising clients within the cell therapy/gene therapy sector would be advantageous, but not essential.
You will be joining a growing and highly regarded boutique practice, working closely with innovative life sciences companies, research organisations and investors, acting as a trusted advisor on the development, protection and commercialisation of valuable IP assets.
Responsibilities
- Beyond traditional drafting and prosecution, you will play a key role in helping clients shape and execute their IP strategies.
- This includes advising on patent portfolio management, freedom‑to‑operate considerations and broader commercial IP issues for a broad range of SME, corporate and international clients.
- You will be encouraged to build long‑term relationships with stakeholders, translating complex scientific concepts into clear, commercially focused advice that supports strategic business objectives.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be confident and commercially astute, engaging directly with decision‑makers and capable of tailoring IP strategies to organisations at different stages of growth, from emerging biotech ventures through to established international businesses. You possess a growth mindset, focus on commercially‑oriented objectives and have an ability to deliver robust solutions in often complex IP environments.
Benefits
The firm offers an established and diverse client base, alongside significant opportunities to develop new relationships and contribute to the continued growth of the practice. For attorneys who enjoy shaping strategy, influencing outcomes and building something meaningful, there is genuine scope to establish a strong personal profile and help drive the future direction of the firm. In return, you will enjoy a highly flexible hybrid working model, with home and office‑based arrangements tailored to suit your circumstances and preferences. The culture is wholly collaborative, entrepreneurial and supportive, offering the autonomy and culture often associated with in‑house environments, while maintaining the variety, technical depth and client exposure of private practice.
