Are you a senior Legal Counsel with deep insurance sector experience looking to step into a Head of Legal role? A prestigious and globally active insurance group is looking for an exceptional individual to join as Head of Legal, playing a key leadership role in shaping and safeguarding the organisation’s legal and regulatory environment.
The role:
- Lead the legal function across the Group, ensuring the effective identification, assessment, and management of all legal risks.
- Oversee the development and implementation of a legal risk framework that supports strategic and operational business goals while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Provide trusted legal advice across a wide range of matters under English law, spanning both insurance-specific topics and broader commercial and corporate legal issues.
- Report directly to the Group General Counsel and be a key contributor to legal governance at the highest level.
- Lead and manage the Group Legal team to deliver timely, practical and commercial legal advice.
- Develop and oversee an effective legal risk management framework.
- Act as the senior point of contact for all legal matters across the organisation.
- Provide legal advice around insurance documentation, including TOBAs, policy wordings, and Lloyd’s market agreements (aligned and unaligned syndicates).
- Advise on corporate legal matters such as M&A deals.
- Support commercial operations through contract review, intellectual property matters, and real estate transactions.
- Collaborate with compliance, risk, and regulatory teams to ensure alignment with PRA and FCA requirements.
- Represent the legal function in strategic decision-making forums across the business.
- Drive the development of a high-performing and collaborative legal team culture.
About you:
- The ideal Head of Legal will bring a strong combination of technical legal expertise, leadership capability, and commercial acumen.
- You will likely be working at Legal Director, Head of Legal or Deputy General Counsel level within a regulated insurance environment.
- Qualified solicitor with significant post-qualification experience.
- Strong legal background in both insurance and corporate/commercial law.
- Deep understanding of the Lloyd’s market and relevant insurance frameworks.
- Experience advising on PRA/FCA regulatory issues.
- Proven ability to lead and develop legal teams.
- Commercially minded with sound risk judgment.
