EKFB is proud to have been appointed by HS2 to deliver civil engineering works across an 80km section of the new high speed rail link between the Chiltern Tunnel and Long Itchington Wood. We’re looking to recruit a Section Engineer on a freelance basis to join our team based in Buckingham.

Key responsibilities include reporting to the Sub Agent and supervising the site engineering team from construction to close out. The successful candidate will assist with temporary works design schemes, liaise with the Sub Agent and Section Foreman to allocate labour, plant and materials, and ensure works activities meet required standards, programmes and budgets. They will manage the site setting‑out team and oversee performance and development of Site Engineers, identifying and resolving technical problems on site in liaison with the Sub‑Agent. Monitoring and coordinating subcontractors to ensure compliance with contractual requirements, providing up‑to‑date information and resources, and assisting with production of programmes, progress reports, resource and cost plans will also be part of the role.

EKFB is a joint venture comprising Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial Construction and BAM Nuttall, offering expertise in designing, constructing, operating and maintaining railway networks. The company has delivered major infrastructure projects, including the Millau Viaduct, Crossrail and the Bretagne‑Pays de la Loire High Speed Rail link.

Scope of Works: The scope includes 15 viaducts, 5km of green tunnels, 22km of road diversions, 67 overbridges and around 30 million cubic metres of excavation.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • HNC/Degree (Construction/Civil Engineering related) or equivalent and working towards institute membership (ICE)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical application of site engineering activities combined with construction supervision skills
  • Experience in utilities, earthworks, heavy structures or drainage is essential
  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle
  • Citizen’s Safe Construction Scheme Card (CSCS) – White, White‑Yellow, Red (Experienced), Black (Manager) or Gold (Supervisor)
  • SSSTS/SMSTS certification
