EKFB is proud to have been appointed by HS2 to deliver civil engineering works across an 80km section of the high speed rail link between the Chiltern Tunnel and Long Itchington Wood. We are seeking a skilled Drainage Sub‑Agent to manage and coordinate the delivery of track drainage works undertaken by specialist subcontractors. You will ensure that drainage installations are planned, executed, and completed to high standards of safety, quality, and compliance.
This role requires strong technical understanding of rail and earthworks drainage systems, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple interfaces on site. You will need to be able to liaise with the Agent and assist in developing work packages, method statements, task briefs, inspection and test plans (ITPs), and technical documentation. You will also need to manage the site engineering team and be responsible for the performance and development of site and Section Engineers. Monitor progress against programme, identify risks or delays, and communicate issues promptly to the Site Agent and project management team, whilst ensuring subcontractors adhere to all health, safety, and environmental protocols, particularly in high‑risk environments such as confined spaces and deep excavations.
EKFB is a joint venture that brings together international, market leading expertise from four leading civil engineering and construction companies: Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial Construction and BAM Nuttall. All four partners have specialist expertise in the design, construction, operation, financing and maintenance of railway networks, including the construction of one of Europe’s latest high speed rail projects. Our scope of the works includes 15 viaducts, 5km of green tunnels, 22km of road diversions, 67 overbridges and around 30 million cubic metres of excavation. EKFB is committed to improving lives, communities and the engineering and construction industry by providing sustained employment opportunities and being a good neighbour, protecting the environment and the places we work. In return, we’re offering a competitive salary and benefits. We are committed to inclusiveness and equality of opportunity. Everyone who works with EKFB has a contribution to make; this is why we welcome applications from different backgrounds, experiences and abilities. Our aim is to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels they are able to be themselves. Please contact us if there is any additional support you might require making an application.
Pre‑employment Checks: It’s worth remembering that we’ll undertake the relevant/standard employment checks if you’re successful in the selection process. This includes taking up your references, as well as checking your ID, driving licence (if appropriate) and your right to work in the UK. Some roles may also be subject to further pre‑employment checks. NB. BPSS security clearance will be required (to be undertaken as part of onboarding process).
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- HNC/Degree (Construction/Civil Engineering related) or equivalent.
- Competent in planning work, coordinating resources, and ensuring safety compliance.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and report progress effectively.
- Previous experience in a Sub‑Agent or Senior Engineer role within rail, civil engineering, or drainage infrastructure.
- Strong technical knowledge of track drainage systems, deep drainage, outfalls, catchpits, manholes, and associated rail infrastructure.
- Experience supervising and managing subcontractor performance on live rail sites.
- Ability to interpret and work with complex rail engineering drawings and drainage designs.
- Strong communication, leadership, and coordination skills.
- Proactive problem‑solver with a focus on safety, efficiency, and quality.
