EKFB was appointed by HS2 to deliver civil engineering works across an 80km section of the new high‑speed rail link between the Chiltern Tunnel and Long Itchington Wood. We’re looking to recruit a Section Engineer on a freelance basis to join our team based in Calvert. The Section Engineer will report to the Sub Agent and supervise the site engineering team from construction to close out.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with temporary works design schemes.
  • Liaising with the Sub Agent and Section Foreman to allocate labour, plant and materials to carry out works activities to the required standards, programme and budget.
  • Managing the site setting‑out team and being responsible for the performance and development of Site Engineers.
  • Identifying and resolving technical problems on site in liaison with the Sub‑Agent.
  • Monitoring and coordinating subcontractors to ensure they complete their work according to contractual requirements.
  • Assisting with the production of programmes, progress reports, resource and cost plans and contributing to financial forecasting.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • HNC/Degree (Construction/Civil Engineering related) or equivalent and working towards institute membership (ICE).
  • Demonstration of knowledge and practical application of Site Engineering activities combined with construction supervision skills.
  • Experience in utilities, earthworks, heavy structures or drainage – essential for this role.
  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Holding a CSCS card (White, White‑Yellow, Red‑Experienced, Black‑Manager or Gold‑Supervisor).
  • Holding an SSSTS/SMSTS.

Additional Requirements:

  • Pre‑employment checks will include references, ID, driving licence and right to work in the UK.
  • Some roles may also be subject to further checks.
  • BPSS security clearance will be required (to be undertaken as part of the onboarding process).
  • CVs may be shared with joint venture partners on this project.
