About The Role

EKFB is a joint venture that brings together international, market‑leading expertise from four leading civil engineering and construction companies: Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial Construction and BAM Nuttall. All four partners have specialist expertise in the design, construction, operation, financing and maintenance of railway networks, including the construction of one of Europe’s latest high‑speed rail projects.

This position will have overall technical accountability to the Design Stage Project Manager for the technical delivery of the design and build of the assigned scope of works along the EKFB Main Works route. This role will also be responsible for the day‑to‑day management and coordination of the Design, including completion of verification (checking), technical review, and interdisciplinary checking and review. It will also manage and coordinate reviews or checks of the design required by third parties such as Cat 3 design checkers.

The Design Manager will ensure coordination of all design and assurance deliverables with interfacing organisations and review technical and assurance deliverables prior to acceptance by the Delivery Design Director. This position will maintain close liaison and collaboration with design consultants, the HS2 technical team, third parties and design approval bodies as required, and oversee technical registers such as assumptions and departures. The Design Manager will review and monitor the maintenance of technical elements of the MIDP and establish regular meeting and reporting cycles for managing, coordinating and assuring the design.

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in major civil engineering works
  • A good communicator and able to build positive working relationships, internally and with the supply chain
  • Ability to coordinate and manage own workload supporting project delivery
  • Experience with MS Office Suite
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant design standards and their applicability for the design
  • Understanding of the HS2 Act (or similar) and its constraints is preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management is preferred
